Here here.

If you don't mind. We'd love your assessment of our own project.

We welcome the critique. Your insight is very useful.

I think they are using Unity3D so your development times are a bit off... they are not creating the engine from the ground up lol otherwise I would agree with you that they would have to have 150+ man team to do the job they are saying.. but they got fully funded and I believe they can do it if they get a correct small man team together.. Unity is very accessible by all Levels of developers..

"Oh dear god. You’re fucked."

Well, that sums it up pretty much, I suppose.
Notch won't comment because he is probably dead by now laughing.
Good luck, though, anyways.

Seriously, how many indie developers were paid up front for their first game? ;)

Kickstarter is a decent way for established groups to toss off the yolk of the publishers (in exchange for the yolk of the fans) and for little projects to raise some of the non-sweat capital they need to buy software licenses, handle accounting and incorporation requirements and hire folks that can handle music/animation/whatever isn't the team's core competency. Aside from that, a successful Kickstarter project is great way to advertise and get a community started.

While no large project has failed yet, when it does happen, I'd hope they'd be honest with the community. In many cases, if the original team can't complete the project for whatever reason, the possibility of open sourcing the work they've done so far and allowing a new team to take over would satisfy many backers.

Yikes! So if it all goes wrong, it's indirectly my fault?

I wasn't picking especially on your project as a potential kickstarter nightmare, btw; there's a great many scary projects out there where people's eyes are bigger than their stomach... it just happens that yours is higher profile than most, and thus will have many mores eyes on it. ;)

We're in the middle a 6 person strong group of pro-visual effects artists and animators working on this game as much out of love for the fans and the yogscast as we are for the money.

With some money though we'll be able to hire some of our programmer friends from the industry as well.

FWIW we have a decent playable demo working now and are quite confident that over the course of development we'll be able to balance the load to keep the game performant and as feature rich as we are describing.

Thanks for the interest, I watched your progress on FortressCraft with great interest as well, even did a playtest here and there for you back when I was still learning XNA. You could say you inspired me somewhat to keep trying to do what I was dreaming to do. . . kinda. :)

I'm not really sure I'm 'press'... that'd be weird.

I'm curious tho, do you have any rebuttals for my concerns? If you're a tiny 2 man outfit doing this in the weekends, then this has almost no chance of succeeding. If you're a 10-man strong studio, full of professional devs with years experience, then that $250k isn't going to hold you until July, let alone Dec!
